Communal attack on Jumma village made by Bengali settlers in Ghagra

On 23 March 2006 at 9.30 p.m. Bengali settlers made communal attack on Jumma people at Jouta Khamar village under Ghagra union of Kaukhali upazila in Rangamati district. In this attack, 8 Jumma villagers were wounded and valuables of houses were destroyed and looted.
It is learnt that a Bengali settler named Md. Rafique (30) s/o Abdul Salam caught Ms. Rajeshwari Chakma (40) w/o late Dhenga Chakma of Jouta Khamar village and tried to rape her while he was returning home at 9.30 p.m. after drinking at Jouta Khamar village. The villagers rushed there when Ms. Rajeshwari Chakma shouted. But Md. Rafique could narrowly escape from the village. Soon after reaching at Rangamati-Chittagong road he started to shout that Jumma villagers looted him and seized Taka 10,000 from him. In the meantime a truck carrying 15/20 Bengali labourers reached there and they (Bengali settlers) also started to attack on Jumma villagers. On the other hand, the truck driver rushed to Bengali-inhabited Maghachari village under Rangunia upazila of Chittagong district and took two trucks of Bengalis to attack on Jumma villagers. Jumma villagers repeatedly informed the incident to Dak Banglow APBN camp. Later police and army rushed there. The following villagers were wounded in this attack:
1) Mr. Lalit Kumar Chakma (45) s/o late Labanga Chakma
2) Mr. Sajub Chakma (35) s/o late Kali Kumar Chakma
3) Mr. Bijoy Shova Chakma (33) s/o Kinaram Chakma
4) Mr. Rangachan Chakma (65) s/o late Fagara Chakma
5) Mr. Bijoy Chakma (20) s/o Raj Kumar Chakma
6) Mr. Rabidhan Chakma (35) s/o Mon Chakma
7) Mr. Shanti Bijoy Chakma (35) s/o Agni Mohan Chakma
8) Mr. Dhanaiya Dewanji (19) s/o Ratan Dewanji.
